Seven Secrets to Making a Killing on Ebay

The world’s biggest marketplace is the Internet, and its biggest bargain and auction store is Ebay. Here, sellers put their items up for bid with a starting price of their choosing. Buyers bid for a limited amount of time, while sellers wait until their desired price appears before terminating the bidding. Buyer and seller then agree on how the product will be shipped and paid for.

Ebay gives people a chance to buy anything they want to buy, sell anything they want to sell, and perhaps get rich trying. Everything can be done at home, with very little investment.

Are you ready to earn money through Ebay? All you need are seven simple strategies.

First: Study the market. Ebay is not only an online bidding and shopping center. Some companies actually post their wares on Ebay to see how much people are willing to pay for it.

To market test your product, post it three times with three different starting bids: one comfortably low, another at the price you expect it to fetch, and a third comfortably high. Monitor each product post and see how fast the prices rise with the bidding.

This way, you know how much people will be willing to pay to purchase your product. There is a caveat to this, however: you can incur the wrath of people on Ebay if you choose to terminate bidding of your two other products should you choose to retain and sell the one for which you got the best price.

Second, sell something old but new. Now this may sound strange, but all it means is that you have to sell something that has a use or a following, something that is unique without being obscure. Ebay is filled with hundreds of thousands of people loud and proud of their wares. You can’t sell something anyone can find in the nearest grocery store, but you can’t sell something no one will know about either.

For instance, you can sell Used Ball Pen Art – it’s something you certainly can’t pick up at the local Wal-Mart, but it isn’t something everyone might be interested in either. If you are unsure, see Strategy Number One. If you believe in your product, however, move on to Strategy Number Three.

Research. Some sellers make the mistake of calling their product certain things: plaid when the pattern is checkered, large when it is actually medium, brand new when it has a tear across its front. Make sure you know everything about your product, so that if someone is finding something specific, they stumble upon your wares. Don’t make the mistake of advertising something your product doesn’t have. Do so, and your buyers – and everyone else on Ebay – will walk away very unhappy.

Fourth, take a great picture of your product. Showcase its best side, but show any flaws it might have without highlighting the flaws or hiding them. When you have taken the picture, crop it to include only your item, then shrink it down to 72 dpi to make it load faster. This will allow buyers to not only see your item, but see it quickly. If it loads too slow, buyers will turn away in impatience. If you have no picture, you will appear unwilling to sell and wary of showing your product.

So what have you got to hide? Take out that camera and snap those pictures!

At this point, you are ready to get your item onto Ebay, so list your product correctly. What some sellers do is to put their items in the most general category, thinking that more people will see it. This is not true for Ebay, since buyers will be searching for specific things. Put your item in the general categories, and you could miss out on those precious page views.

Sixth, work on your writing. Ebay requires you to have a written description of your product, along with an auction title. Make your written description short and true, and your auction title specific. Remember that some buyers may not have the right Internet speed – and patience – to wait for your picture to load, so you have to grab them immediately with a delicious description.

As a rule, the best descriptions are those which will answer any questions your buyers might have.

Your product is now online and ready to be sold – but how do you sell it right, and when do you stop the bidding? It’s all about timing.

Know when Internet traffic is loose so that you can post your item without much difficulty on your part, and know when traffic is high so that you don’t terminate bidding when people are actually trying to get through to your site but are stuck in an online traffic jam.

So, seventh, watch your market. Watch TV, so you know when popular shows are on. Chances are, people won’t be at their computes during that time. Watch the Weather Channel. In harshly cold or harshly hot weather, people will be indoors surfing the net.

Marketing is all about timing, and in selling, timing is everything. Ebay is no exception, and it can be a great place to earn cash if you strategize and plan.

How To Ask For Client & Customer Referrals— (& How To Overcome Referral Objections)

A big question I am asked each month from professionals I work with interested in increasing their client and customer referrals(realtors, financial advisors, attorneys, CPAs, bankers, etc.) is this: “When I discuss referrals, how do I overcome referral objections?”

Essentially, this is an age-old sales dilemma grounded in one thing: fear. And the “fear,” in this case, is on both sides of the equation:

Equation #1: I am afraid (fearful) to ask the client or customer for a referral.

Equation #2: The client or customer I am *asking* for a referral is afraid (or fearful) to discuss the subject with me.

I want to be clear: The client or customer you’re asking for a referral is NOT telling you WHY they are afraid. It is often well below the surface. The key to this lies in discovering why the other person is fearful to begin with. And there are three (3) ways you go about doing this.

1. First, eliminate the other person’s fear by adding more information. If they object to your comment about referrals, you may start by saying something like: “John, I’m glad to hear you say that. I know exactly what you mean,” or “Thank you for bringing that up; it’s a good point.”

Another way is to use the “3-F” format: Feel, Felt, Found.

Practical example:

“John, I know how you *feel* about providing referrals. I’ve *found* the same to be true in my business, in that I never give referrals until I understand all the work someone has done for me. I’ve also *felt* that once I’ve gotten all of that information, I’m happy to refer business. Is that what you really meant??”

Tip: At this stage, you must go slow, slow, slow— present the information that dispels the person’s perceived problem in granting you a referral. Be careful, and go slow.

2. Treat the referrers’ objection as an “objective.” Legendary sales master Zig Ziglar once said that a person’s objection to anything in life is simply their *objective.* It’s nothing more than them trying to accomplish something they are not telling you about!

For example, a CPA or attorney is not objecting to referring one of their highly valued, affluent clients to you— they just have a certain “objective” before granting you the introduction. Do you know what that “objective” is? Remember: objection equals objective.

3. Probe to see if their voiced objection is the only one they REALLY have. In most cases it is NOT. So work towards confirmation and reinforcement. For example, confirm and get reinforcement onto the table.

Practical example: “That’s a good point to consider John. Your question is whether this is the smart thing to do right now, isn’t it?”

When the person replies yes, begin to ask for reinforcement: “Well, you do like the program, don’t you?”

You need reinforcement from the referrer.

Remember: Every instance is different. And every person is different, as is their communication style. Discover the nature of a person’s resistance. If the conversation becomes heavy or tense— back off.

Don’t ruin your chances for referrals later by exploring too hard now. But get exploring!

Impotent Questions – How Much Are They Costing You?

Last issue we talked about what motivates people to buy something. A person or a business is motivated to buy when they perceive that a change needs to occur to fix or avoid a problem, or to enable a greater vision for their future. They buy when they believe that a product or service will bridge this gap for them.


In other words, people are most likely to buy when they are in a state of trouble, or a state of tremendous opportunity. Some people will seek you out as a seller, and tell you this. These are the easy sales. Most people do not do this however. Most people stay in their comfort zones, desiring not to get too worked up over what’s not happening in their lives.


Selling then, becomes a game of stirring up people’s emotions. When you become aware that you have a problem that you must solve, your emotions change. You get concerned, frustrated, upset, worried, scared, or even angry. Just how intensely you react depends upon your perception of the magnitude and the imminence of the consequences.


Consequences.


In one word, you have the key to all selling and motivation. Consequences give rise to the experiencing of emotions such as fear, despair and anger, or hope, want and excitement. And it is the mere thought of experiencing these emotions that motivates you or anyone else.


My dictionary defines a consequence as follows: -”something that logically or naturally follows from an action or condition.”


Once you think of taking an action, or not taking an action, and you consider the consequences of that decision, the opportunity for a strong emotion to be triggered has been setup. Whether the emotional response is a strong one or not, depends on you, and your own associations concerning a particular action.


The thought falling from the top of a 500 foot cliff, smashing onto the jagged, craggy rocks at the bottom, and becoming a bloody, gelatinous skin sack of red, pink, and purple would cause the emotion of fear in many people.


That is if you really think about it, and picture it in your mind.


What about sitting down and watching TV on a Saturday afternoon? That might trigger the emotion of boredom for some people. It might trigger relaxation, or escapism for another. To my wife it represents “being a loser”. For me, it represents an opportunity to escape, and not to think about reality for just awhile.


Consequences trigger unique emotional motivations for every person. Not all are intense, and not all are enough to move someone to act, to make a decision, to buy something. The ones that do are the ones that we care about.


Asking questions that stir up consequences and uncover motivations is not a natural course of action for most people. I’m not sure exactly why this is, but I believe that it has something to do with politeness, and a cultural value that you shouldn’t get too personal with people you don’t know well.


Yet asking such questions is one of the most powerful things you can do as a persuader. “Isn’t this manipulation?”, some are of you are probably thinking. Well, yes. But is this a bad thing? You are helping people to access the emotions that will motivate them to solve their own problems. If they are to solve their problem (and solving that problem involves making a purchase), then they will do this sooner or later. By helping them with the process, you are helping them to get what they want.


How does one question then in such a persuasive manner? To effectively teach you this here would require about ten times as much space as I have already written. I can tell you a couple of things though. You probably question this way on only a rare occasion right now. Also, most of your questioning probably centers around getting factual information, that is what someone wants or doesn’t want, what they have now, what they need, etc.


While useful to you, this information does not motivate your buyers. It helps you. But it does not really help your buyer. People bond with you, and want to buy from you when they believe you can help them get what they want. For this reason, too many sales calls end on a rather flat note.


Many people don’t take their questioning to a deep enough level. This is why I created the Persuasive Questioning Techniques Sales Teleclass. I have been sharing these techniques with my personal one-on-one clients for the last couple of years, and I wanted to share these with more people.

The Real Basics Of VoIP

VoIP stands for Voice over Internet Protocol and it is the ability to transmit voice over the Internet to either a receiving computer or telephone.

VoIP uses what is referred to as the Packet Switching Network. Standard landline telephones use the Circuit Switching Network. The entire landline telephone system uses what is known as PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network).

If you can picture the old switchboard operators, wearing headsets frantically trying to connect the right caller with the correct receiver then this is what Circuit Switching is like. Packet Switching is used to transfer data at high speeds all around the Internet.

Packet Switching converts audio formats into small byte sized data packets and transmits them at high speed over the Internet. It then reassembles them on the other person’s phone or computer in real time.

A simple form of VoIP is used with many free Instant Messaging programs. Instant Messaging programs have been utilizing the science of VoIP technology for years. A computer user can download an Instant Messaging program, connect their computer speakers and a microphone, and make a free long distance (or international) call to another pc user. Many Instant Messaging programs are incorporating VoIP services. You can use Yahoo Messenger, AOL, Skype, ICQ, MSN, and Google to make pc-to-pc free phone calls.

Believe it or not, VoIP technology is NOT relatively new it has been around for a while now; it is just becoming more and more popular as day to day computer users are discovering how easy it is to use. In the late 1990’s, programs were springing up across the Internet offering some form of free VoIP technology. Most of those are either no longer existent or now charge a standard monthly service fee for the use of their product. HLA is a framework to integrate distributed software entities running in heterogeneous environment (both hardware and software wise) and communicating with each other over a network to achieve the overall goal ; following certain specifications while doing so.

The High Level Architecture (HLA) is a software architecture for creating computer simulations out of component simulations. It was proposed by US DoD and later standardized by IEEE as an open standard IEEE 1516.

The main aim of HLA is re-usability and interoperability of complex distributed software entities. So, an HLA-compliant Air Traffic Controller simulation can be used by many other HLA-compliant applications, no matter in which computing environment they are developed and running.

This architecture is just a specification and not an implementation. It is essentially a service-oriented architecture. Any HLA-compliant simulation is called a FEDERATE. A federate can provide some service (data) to other federates or it may receive required data from other federates. This data exchange intent is maintained in a repository called FEDERATION OBJECT MODEL (FOM) implemented in accordance with OBJECT MODEL TEMPLATE (OMT).

A federate may be a PRODUCER or a CONSUMER or both. A producer publishes its services and consumer subscribes to these services. The repository acts a service directory and uses standard data exchange format XML. To communicate with each other, federates need a supporting communication software called RUN-TIME INFRASTRUCTURE (RTI) which is an implementation of six groups of services as specified in HLA framework and caters to the requirements of distributed simulations. These six groups of services are Federation Management, Data Management, Object Management, Ownership Management, Distributed Data Management and Time Management. Federates together with RTI constitute a FEDERATION. The RTI allows creation/destruction of federation, join/resign of federates and data exchanges among federates. It optionally provides filtered data delivery and may handle errors in order of receiving data due to network delays and other speed mismatches. These functionalities are according to 10 rules (5 rules for federation & 5 for federates) of HLA standard.

Although HLA was developed for military simulations but it is a general purpose architecture and can be used building simple to complex applications. Some of the simple applications are chat and multi-user games like Tic-Tac-Toe. Complex applications may include distributed war-gaming applications with intense data exchanges among participating entities.
