Research Paper in 60 Minutes

Assignments are prepared best when they are given much time and attention, but sometimes time deficit and busy student life require a skill of writing papers very fast. If you know what I mean, this brief guide on writing research papers in emergency regime is for you.

One of the most useful ways of writing research papers of any type is to develop a draft outline of what you have to cover. Let’s assume your research paper deals with advertising, but this topic is too broad, you should narrow it to more specific subject. In this, I advise you to follow the rule of “inverted pyramid”, starting with broad overview of subject and narrowing your focus down to the pyramid’s head, where your specific topic is formulated. For instance, the topic of advertising can be narrowed down to “Advertising techniques of Absolut Company”. In your outline, make a list of general points you want to make and notes or references that can support those points. Your strongest point should be the last in your list.

It is important to gain idea about what your thesis will be. If you don’t have any vision yet, spend some time brainstorming and noting your thoughts. Still, it’s normal to start your research without thesis or to change the thesis in the course of your research: as you learn more, your ideas on the subject change.

When you have a thesis, make sure it is not a mere statement of fact, like “advertising is used to raise brand awareness and sell products to customers”. A good thesis should make a strong claim about something, in the way: “advertising is the most important element in Absolut differentiation and positioning strategy. In its turn, the company changed the meaning of advertising in entire liquor market”. Also, your thesis should not be too broad. For instance, such thesis as “The paper will discuss the effectiveness of radio, TV, and printed advertising and their role in the economy” is too broad for most papers and takes too much time to elaborate.

After you have done developing your draft outline and decided on your thesis, you have to “fill in the blanks”. On this stage, many students stumble since they are used to linear approach to research writing instead of shotgun one. If you are absolutely unfamiliar with your topic, a good method of starting your research is to read good encyclopedia article. This will give you overview of the subject and provide you with good ideas for further studying. Also, pay attention to structure of encyclopedia article. This may provide you with your own ideas as to organizing your presentation. After you gain insight into the topic, the process is easier. To act fast, use search engine to find related info or apply to source that provides you with comprehensive journal and magazine articles, such as Questia (www.questia.com), HighBeam of Google Scholar (http://scholar.google.com). Teachers value peer-reviewed articles and scholarly books, and therefore you should pay close attention to them to leave teachers satisfied. Encyclopedias and journal articles should be the first resources you apply to, but you are not advised to use encyclopedia article as the source of your work unless you are required. If you need current figures or specific facts that are extremely difficult to find, use a reliable website. After you collected all the information, you can find some interesting alternative opinions on the subject. Try to find opinions pro and contra discussed point, but don’t forget to site the resources you use. Every time you use a resource, you should refer to it and include it into your bibliography list. What is even more important, you should produce your own opinion on the subject and your own analysis of discussed topic. This is the moment where your paper acquires real academic value. Do not fear of being wrong, the most important thing required from you while you learn is ability to think and analyze, therefore any original analysis is valuable.

Writing is the final stage of your creative process. In writing a paper, constantly refer to your notes, your thesis, and outline.

Written paper should be structured according to standard pattern. Usually, it’s divided in three major blocks: introduction (where you will tell you audience what you are going to tell them), main body (here you will tell them – elaborate your thesis), and conclusion (tell the audience what you told them). That’s the simplest scheme you probably ever met!

In introduction you should start with broad overview of the topic of your research unless indicated otherwise in your assignment. This part should end with clear thesis statement unless required otherwise. This is very important for success of your paper. It is good to divide the main body – the review and discussion block, into several sections. Applying advertising at Absolut, these may include: theoretical overview of advertising in context of marketing communications, background and overview of Absolut Company, advertising mix of Absolut, and analysis of advertising trends in liquor industry. In conclusion, you sum up the main findings of your research and principal points.

After you have completed writing, put your paper aside for some time, refresh your mind, and come back to it a bit later to polish and revise your work. A good thing is to ask someone else to read your paper. He or she would produce fresh ideas and point to some mistakes you didn’t notice. Also, use spelling and grammar checking software, but make your own checking as well. Before you finish, ask yourself is there are flaws in the paper, check it on the following features: if it has transitions between different ideas, if it is choppy or disjointed, if it builds up ideas to the strongest point. Also, make sure that all parts of your paper support your thesis or refer to it. Ask yourself if you gave proper consideration to alternative viewpoints: comprehensive presentation is very important element of good research paper.

Approaching your research in this way, you will let the research process guide the direction of your future paper instead of trying to find relevant things that would match what you need. This approach is much faster and produces far better results for both beginners and those lacking time for writing assignments. As you master this algorithm, you can apply it to more complicated and serious projects.

Presentation Strengtheners – Develop Unique “Signature Stories”

There are still presenters who, when introduced and take the platform, will start their presentation by telling a joke or a story that bears no relationship to their topic. In this article I want to share ways for presenters to develop strong and effective “Signature Stories” that will succeed in getting the audience’s attention.

Personal “Signature Stories” about Other People’s Experiences

  • These can be motivating stories about an historical person — please, not Thomas Edison! Do your factual research about the character, the times in which he or she lived — what they wore, what they ate, and other details you won’t use, but need to know yourself. Then craft a story that has meaning and pizzazz.
  • These can also be stories about someone you know or have known — be sure, if they are still living that you have permission, even if you give them a different name. This type of story — because it isn’t about you — can tell of accomplishments and triumphs. Just remember that you never want to tell a story that you wouldn’t feel comfortable telling if the person it is about is a member of the audience.

Original, Traditional Stories with a Twist, or Fairy/Folk Tales

  • I fear that many presenters feel that “Signature Stories” must have been something that actually happened. Not necessarily true! I have a cockroach story that is based on the “Pied Piper of Hamlin” that I have told for years. I have also heard excellent presentations based on Aesop’s Fables — they offer a plethora of plots and morals, of course.
  • If you love stories and go both ways — as I do as a speaker and storyteller — use the fairy or folk tales that mean something important to you. It will add such a good change of pace to your presentation, your listeners will sit up and take notice. And, love you for it too!

Ingredients to Use When Developing Your “Signature Story”

  • I would be remiss at this stage not to mention some of the ingredients that help you develop, prepare, and tell an effective, compelling story. A good story has a beginning, middle, and end. It must include conflict or crises, and a climax or resolution. It is not merely a descriptive anecdote. It must have plot.
  • Make your stories short, punchy, and meaningful. Include pauses, drama, suspense, and not too many details. Think in images and create those pictures for your listeners.
  • Finally, have fun creating your stories. And, practice, practice, practice them on friends, family and even strangers!

I guarantee that the next time you present, you will WOW your audience with your “Signature Story.”

Significant Ideas To Consider While Purchasing Homes At A Public Auction

Acquiring and offering estates on a public sale can be simple and useful for both sides. Discover auctions though is not simple process. Particulars in relation to the assets for sale on auctions can be published in the dedicated or national newspapers, or on most specialised web sites. Property agents time and again hold facts of estate to be auctioned too. Nevertheless the easiest process of finding public sale is to take note of the contact numbers of any “Sale by Auction” signboards.

There’s often a price to be listed on the auctioneers mailing catalogue and for obtaining an index complete of pictures and facts concerning the properties. Free of charge lists are generally a waste of time.

You’ve merely got nearly one month to understand what’s imminent on by auctions, so action is required as soon as possible.

The kind of house commonly auctioned are the one-offs that can be complicated to evaluate or to put on the market, although they have development promises.

Auctions are also motivating for the repossession houses put on the market for sale by banks, which normally are bargain and have low reserve value. Before the public sale pay a visit and hold a good look at the property. Investigate the vicinity and, most important arrange with your experts to achieve the indispensable search – like an official inspection and a professional assessment.

It’s prudent to establish your budget, and more central, arrange the money to pay in advance a generally 10 percent on the public auction day, and the remaining 90 percent in the next 28 days after the agreement. If your bid is triumphant, you will pay in advance the deposit to the auctioneer as soon as possible and the seller’s representative has to countersign the Memorandum of Agreement. Penalties for disappointment to fulfil the arranged figure are harsh.

Consider that if you lose the bid you will waste part of the cash you have used on the assessment plus the legal fees, but it is a good idea informing the mediator of the amount you can be prepared to spend for a exclusive property that has been withdrawn; who knows, in particular cases the seller may be ready to think your offer.

The public sale arrangement is the same to exchange of contracts in the typical sale by private accord. This also indicates that the buyer will not be gazumped and the seller does not have to be bothered of last-minute fee renegotiations. Properties in Croatia are great investment alternative to auctions, especially in today’s economic climate.

Let Go My Ego – Part 1

What is the #1 cause of public speaking fear?

Perception.

People are afraid of how they THINK they will come across to the audience.

No one is scared of forgetting. They are scared of how forgetting makes them look.

A speaker is not afraid of freezing. He or she is worried about the THOUGHTS going through the minds of listeners at that moment.

If the room was empty a speaker could freeze, forget, stumble, bumble, break down and cry and would not care a bit. He wouldn’t be scared or worried because no one would be there to judge or critique.

Like other fears in life, most of the imagined things that could go wrong NEVER come close to happening.

Our problem over all is that we care far too much what other people think (in every area of life). Why? Because we think it reflects what we should think about ourselves. That’s ridiculous.

When you step in front of a group you should be consumed with how your message is going to HELP them, not how you could be HURT if things don’t go as planned. When you are worried about you that’s just EGO.

Do you need the audience or does the audience need you?

If the answer is found in the first half of that question, then you have an ego problem. Let go of that ego.

Warm Regards,

Paul Evans

Speaking & Writing Success Formula – Passion First, Business Second

If you’re a speaker or a writer, what is the most important secret of success?

(1) Finance

(2) Strategic Planning

(3) Effective Time Management

(4) Speaking or Writing

You know, the first three are truly important for sustaining and growing your success. But that’s later, on.

If you guessed (4), you’re completely on target.

Speakers speak, and writers write!

That seems so obvious, doesn’t it? But all to many of us believe that we have to have the perfectly thought out business plan, a good amount of cash on hand, and lots of open time to make a go of it, as a successful writer or speaker.

Actually, there’s something I didn’t put on the list, which is truly number one.

You must have passion for speaking or writing.

With it, you’ll create opportunities where there were none.

Doors will open for you when you’re committed to the task, and of course if that leads you to DOING the stuff you should be doing: speaking or writing.

Let me give you an example.

If you aspire to being a professional speaker, improving your speeches and presentations is the smartest investment you can make. And to do so requires lots of speaking opportunities.

Get them by speaking for free at service clubs like the Rotary, and at non-profit organizations, which generally love to learn, but have no money to spend.

Leverage these opportunities by getting testimonial letters you can quote, and by networking.

Soon enough, people will be willing to pay you to speak. You’ll go from free-to-fee presenting, simply by getting exposure and by getting better at your craft.

The same concept applies to writing. Get exposure through ezines and other outlets, and get good at writing.

When it comes to success, remember this formula: Passion first; Business second!

Caribbean Weddings Around the World

Every year, millions of travelers make their way to the beautiful islands of the Caribbean. A few days of fun in the sun may seem like the ultimate indulgence, but more and more frequently, visitors are arriving with an agenda all their own. Weddings and honeymoons have always been a popular activity for couples visiting the Caribbean, but these days themed weddings put a new spin on an old favorite.

Many islands in the region have plenty to offer lovebirds who hope to create their dream nuptials or post-party escape. Gorgeous scenery and warm weather make the perfect backdrop for a tropical ceremony, allowing travelers to make their special day into something truly memorable. Of course, there are also a few ways to make a one-of-a-kind wedding by incorporating some distinctly Caribbean aspects.

One fun option that many travelers may not have considered is to add a bit of the local culture to their own ceremony. Though Caribbean wedding traditions are largely Christian, the islands have a history of blending cultural influences, much the same way they have created the fabulous foods and sizzling beats for which the region is known.

African and European traditions fused with traces of native rituals in the tropics. These rituals can be combined into your wedding to give it a hint of culture, whether it’s set on the seaside or in a beautifully decorated ballroom.

  • Consider a long walk down the aisle: Many Caribbean islands include the tradition of the happy couple walking through the town from their respective homes to the church, whose bells are ringing out news of the occasion. The purpose of this is to show off their new wedding attire.
  • Dress like a local: The new wedding attire the bride and groom show tends to be handmade. Outfits here are designed to help them look their best, and store-bought dresses are uncommon.
  • Pare down the party: In many island traditions, there is no inclusion of a best man or groom’s men. Instead the groom waits while the bride’s father, and sometimes mother as well, escort her to the altar. A maid or matron of honor position does exist, though she is called “the chief.”
  • Feast on local cuisine: Every island in the Caribbean has its own specialties, whether it’s the jerk marinades of Jamaica or the Latin flare of Puerto Rico, you’ll find something unique in each location. Of course, seafood is easy to find and hard to resist on nearly every island.
  • Try tropical toasts: Rum is the liquor of choice throughout the region, and this sugar-based alcohol is often included in punches for the toast. A cake heavily laced with rum and rum-soaked fruits is also common at weddings in the Caribbean.

Other traditions may be unique to individual islands. On Bermuda, for example, the wedding cake is topped not by miniature figures but by a tree! Newlyweds plant this tree when they return home, its healthy growth considered an indication of a successful marriage.

Another interesting tradition involves gifts of money granted to the bride and groom at the reception. Different islands include this differently: In Cuba, a particular dance has the bride changing partners around the room, during which time they each present her with money to help with honeymoon expenses; in Puerto Rico, a doll dressed like the bride is given money by the wedding guests.

Though some of these items might not work for your wedding, taking on a few Caribbean traditions may be the perfect way to add a little flair to your ceremony. In fact, these traditions can help you plan an unusual wedding, no matter whether you hold it in the heart of the Caribbean or in your own backyard.
